Which is more important – Hair typing? Porosity? or Density?

Hey Queens! 👋🏽

Wonder what’s more important when taking care of that beautiful head of hair? Initially, we read about hair typing and thought this was important but then density and porosity came along and now we are confused as to what matters the most.

Importance

… but to understand which is more important it’s fitting that you know what they are.

Canola

Hey Queens! 👋🏽

How are you doing today? I’ve been researching about oils to help in hair growth and I came across canola oil, therefore I began to research about it. Canola is not endorsed in the natural hair community and from my research this seems to be a great oil for your hair.

Canola seeds are used to produce canola oil since 43% of it is oil. Canola is modified type of rapeseed. It belongs to the mustard family (canola is closely related to Brussels sprout, broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage). Cultivation of rapeseed started four thousand years ago. Medical studies in 20th century showed that rapeseed contains erucic acid (chemical substance) that may induce harmful effects in humans when consumed in large quantities. Soon after, scientists created genetically improved, healthier version of rapeseed, named canola. Newly created plant contains minimal amount of erucic acid, it is resistant to herbicides and it can be consumed safely. Thanks to all these features, canola is one of the most important agricultural crops today. [SOURCE]

My Wash Day Regimen

Hey Queens! 👋

I have finally come up with a wash day regimen that works for my hair. There is no one regimen that works for everyone, therefore, this may not work for you. You can try this method or take from it what you think would work for you.

My WashDay Regimen

My wash day regimen has evolved over the years and I am sticking with this one. I used to deep condition my hair before clarifying or shampooing but now I deep condition after. I also used to apply my deep conditioner to damp hair but it now works best on soaking wet hair.

Factual or Mythical Series: Protective Styles Make Your Hair Grow

This has been a myth in the natural hair community for quite awhile. Now when we speak of protective styles we’re speaking of a style that protect the ends of our hair. Protective styles include twists, braids, wigs, extensions, weaves, etc. When we protect our ends we avoid the chance of it breaking off. Ends not being broken off = more length.

Women will often do back to back protective styles to encourage hair growth but are not aware of the downfalls of doing this. I myself have been a victim of the back-to-back protective styling trying to grow long hair. Protective styles helps us to retain length – not grow our hair.

Undefined Fro

Hey Queens! 👋🏽

Last Wednesday I wore my hair in undefined style and I love it. I am a girl who loves a defined look, so falling in love with an undefined style means I am growing to love my hair in whatever state it’s in. I used to think persons would look at me like I’m a crazy girl with all my hair out like that but I just didn’t care that day. I had so many eyes staring at my hair but it just didn’t matter. I felt free, my hair dancing in the wind. 🙂

undefined-fro, natural-hair, fro, hairstyle, hair,

My wash day was the next day – Thursday and I just didn’t want to do much with my hair, so I placed some flat twists in my hair about 10 or less and the next day I pulled them out to achieve this: 💁
